HOW TO SUPPORT AGNI & PREVENT AMA
Daily Practices
- Tongue scraping upon waking
Removes accumulated Ama from the mouth and stimulates digestive organs.
- Digestive stimulants before meals
Trikatu (dry ginger, black pepper and long pepper): ½ teaspoon in honey, taken 30 minutes before meals helps spark digestion and burn excess Kapha-type Ama.
- Gentler alternative:
Fresh ginger (½ tsp) with a pinch of salt and a squeeze of lemon chewed well 30 minutes before meals.
- Cumin–Coriander–Fennel tea (CCF tea)
1 teaspoon total of equal parts Cumin, Coriander and Fennel infused in 250 ml hot water.
Drink after meals to minimise bloating and support digestion.
- Allow 4–6 hours between meals
This gives Agni time to fully process food.
- Eat your largest meal at noon
When the sun is at its peak, Pitta dosha and digestive fire are strongest.
- Avoid cold drinks
Cold beverages extinguish Agni.
- Pitta benefits from room-temperature drinks
- Vata and Kapha from warm or hot drinks
